How To Create a List of Local Nonprofits

My fourth and fifth week at Locable consisted of helping Ryan compile a list of nonprofits based out of southern NH. Searching for local charities seemed like a reasonably easy task but turned out to be a bit more difficult than I originally anticipated. The parameters of the task were to create a list of non-profits that would be likely to do a "car wash" style fundraiser in the area of Concord, Bow and Hopkinton. Finding these smaller, more local non-profits required a little bit of search engine finesse so I put this list together in order to help speed along the process for you.

1. Start with Google. Searching for "nonprofits in yourtown yourstate". This will likely lead to your towns Chamber of Commerce which makes an excellent starting point. Make sure to check out the first few pages for ideas on where to look next.
2. Check all local television and radio websites as well as those of your competitors. They are often associated with great local organizations and could be a great opportunity to collaborate!
3. Next, look for child advocate groups, Boys and Girl Clubs, and bigger charities that may have had smaller, local branches in your town
4. Don't overlook schools, rec centers and other after school programs that are likely in need of fundraising opportunities
5. Lastly, make sure to check out the Greater Non-Profits website that you can use to find local charities in any location.
